Brief Overview of Lake Hartwell
Lake Hartwell was built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers between 1955 and 1963 as part of a flood control, hydropower, and navigation project. Uses now include recreation, water supply, fishing, and wildlife management. Lake Hartwell has many public parks, marinas, and campgrounds located around the lake to pursue a variety of outdoor recreational activities. Hartwell is one of the most visited Corps lakes in the nation.
Lake Hartwell borders Georgia and South Carolina on the Savannah, Seneca, and Tugaloo Rivers. It is created by Hartwell Dam, which is located on the Savannah River. It extends 45 miles up the Seneca river and 49 miles up the Tugaloo river. Lake Hartwell contains about 56,000 acres of water and has 962 miles of shoreline, creating a vast amount of beautiful Lake Hartwell Real Estate.
