Lake Hartwell Dam Area

Lake Hartwell Dam Water View

Above: The Savannah River below the Lake Hartwell Dam is spectacular. This photo was taken just before sunset. The ice-cold water is filled with stocked rainbow trout, brown trout, walleye, striped bass, and a variety of other fish species.

Below: View of the Savannah River just below the Lake Hartwell Dam. Notice how clear the water is - like a mountain trout stream. This photo was taken shortly after water had been released from the dam -- the water level was receding. You can walk out across the rocks in many places when the water recedes. Perfect for trout fishing!

Lake Hartwell Dam View

Below: A view from one of the Georgia fishing piers on the Savannah River below Lake Hartwell Dam. About 1/4 mile down this river is a boat ramp. This river, which feeds into Lake Russell, offers excellent fishing and stunning views. The water is often 20 to 30 feet deep as your boat drifts further down the river. Large fish can often be seen rising in the currents, especially around the old Smith McGee bridge, which now serves as a long fishing pier, stretching about half-way across the Georgia side of the river.
