Lake Hartwell Water Level
This lake level program calculates and updates the current lake levels of Lake Hartwell, Lake Russell, and Lake Thurmond (Clarks Hill Lake) on this page at the top of every hour, 24/7. Data is taken from figures posted on the official Lake Hartwell Corps of Engineers website. You may notice from the lake levels report that the Lake Russsell Water Level is almost always near full pool, while Lake Hartwell and Lake Thurmond remain rather low during times of drought. This is because the Corps of Engineers like to keep Lake Russell as close to full pool as possible. Lake Russell is an excellent, pristine fishing lake. If you buy on Lake Hartwell, you can also fish Lake Russell whenever you want since it is only a few miles away. However, boat docks are not allowed on Lake Russell. If you need a dock, I would recommend Lake Hartwell, due to easy access to I-85 and close proximity to Lake Russell. Lake Hartwell is also an excellent lake for fishing, especially for large striped bass (stripers), largemouth bass, catfish, crappie, etc. In fact, the state record striper was caught in Lake Hartwell. Not only are docks allowed, it is the largest lake in Georgia, and offers miles and miles of beautiful water for your boating pleasure. The big water around the dam area is spectacular. Lake Thurmond (Clarks Hill Lake) is the third lake in this chain of lakes and also offers excellent fishing, especially for catfish. However, this lake is much further south down the Savannah River.
